B&B HOTEL Marseille Les Ports is located in the 15th arrondissement, on the city’s northern edge, where the cranes of the Autonomous Port shape the horizon almost as much as the hills in the distance. Most people get there by car, via the A55 motorway exit, or straight out of the cruise terminal, just a few minutes away by road.

From the moment you walk in, the welcome stands out for its simplicity. You are shown the drinks vending machine for the night, given a word about the neighborhood, and answered straightforwardly on practical questions. Nothing staged. Just enough to feel expected after a flight or a long drive.

The 90 rooms, spread over several floors, focus on the essentials. Bultex mattresses, adjustable air conditioning, private bathroom with walk-in shower. The soundproofing does its job: you quickly forget you are sleeping right next to the elevator. The towels, on the other hand, remain thin and dry quickly after a shower, the kind of detail that reminds you where you are: a hotel designed for efficiency and a tight price, not for great hotel comfort. Three rooms are accessible to guests with reduced mobility, on one level all the way to the bathroom.

On the ground floor, outside breakfast hours, a microwave is available for reheating meals, next to a coffee machine and a snack dispenser. Handy for late arrivals who did not have time to dine.

In the morning, the breakfast room fills up slowly. All-you-can-eat buffet: bread delivered fresh every morning, pastries, cold meats and cheese on the savory side, fresh juices and hot drinks on the sweet side. Children under ten pay half price.

Outside, a partner parking lot (about a hundred meters away, reservation recommended) keeps its gate lit all night. Those who arrive by car late in the evening remember it.

Then there is the question of the neighborhood. You do not reach the Old Port on foot while strolling under the plane trees: expect a walk to Bougainville metro station, then a transfer to head back toward the Canebière. This is a choice that suits mainly those spending a night before boarding, attending a meeting on the outskirts, or making a stop along the road, more than those who want to walk down for a coffee at the Old Port. Around the hotel, the Joliette-Arenc district continues to change, between renovated docks and new buildings.

Pets are welcome too, for an extra six euros per night.

Around 7:30 a.m., just before the room fills up, the bread is still warm and the coffee has just been refreshed. That is the right time to head to the buffet.
