Residhome Marseille is easy to find in the Joliette district, just a stone’s throw from the metro station of the same name. It is often reached via Rue Mazenod, between the cranes of the Grand Port Maritime and the office towers of the Euroméditerranée project rising all around.

The reception is open day and night, without interruption. A team that caters just as well to a busy business traveler as to a family arriving with two suitcases and a dog, accepted for an additional fee.

The accommodation, more than a hundred studios and apartments spread across several floors, focuses on functionality rather than décor. Equipped kitchen with ceramic hobs and dishwasher, sofa bed in the studios to accommodate one extra person, bathroom with bathtub. Some rooms look out toward the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica, perched on its hill, others toward the Porte d’Aix. Several apartments are designed for people with reduced mobility, with a lowered sink and grab bars in the bathroom.

On the top floor, in the Executive apartments, the Nespresso machine is restocked every day, as is the minibar. Bathrobe, slippers, Bose speaker on the coffee table. A welcome tray awaits on the kitchen counter upon arrival.

Breakfast, for its part, follows a different path. Buffet served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekdays, until 10:30 a.m. on weekends, but charged as an extra. Those who prefer to save money head instead to one of the bakeries on Rue de la République, just a few minutes’ walk away.

From morning on, you can walk to the Les Terrasses du Port shopping center, or continue on to the MUCEM and the Old Port. Tram T2 and metro line 2 head toward the city center and Saint-Charles station. The calanques and the Prado beaches, however, are still a good half-hour away: La Joliette is more of a business district than an immediate seafront area, even if the residence’s name evokes the open sea.

In the evening, the building’s air conditioning runs on marine geothermal energy, a plant installed at the port that cools and heats the building depending on the season. Housekeeping comes once a week, and the laundry and dry-cleaning services take over in between visits.

One final tip: ask for a room facing Notre-Dame de la Garde if you like having coffee overlooking the hill around 8 a.m., before the city has quite woken up.
